Newark, NJ — A stolen 2021 BMW M6 was successfully recovered after law enforcement agencies in New Jersey and New York used LoJack® GPS tracking technology to monitor the vehicle’s movement in real time across state lines.

According to investigators, the owner discovered the BMW missing from Bloomfield Avenue in Newark and immediately reported the theft to the Newark Police Department. The owner advised officers that the keys had been left inside the vehicle at the time of the theft. Officers quickly initiated a stolen vehicle investigation and coordinated with law enforcement partners.

Fortunately, the BMW M6 was equipped with a LoJack GPS tracking system. After notification of the theft, LoJack customer service activated the vehicle within the LoJack Law Enforcement (LE) platform, providing investigators with real-time GPS location data.

Detectives assigned to the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force used the live tracking information to monitor the BMW’s movement from Newark into New York City. The GPS tracking data allowed investigators to maintain awareness of the vehicle’s location without relying solely on visual surveillance or patrol sightings.

The stolen BMW was ultimately located parked and unoccupied in New York City. Working alongside the New York City Police Department Queens Auto Larceny Unit, authorities safely recovered the vehicle without damage.

Vehicle thefts involving interstate movement continue to challenge law enforcement agencies nationwide. Connected stolen vehicle recovery systems like LoJack help agencies share intelligence more effectively, reduce recovery times, and improve the chances of recovering high-value vehicles without damage.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Newark Police Department, the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force, the NYPD Queens Auto Larceny Unit, and LoJack GPS tracking technology, the stolen 2021 BMW M6 was successfully recovered. The investigation remains ongoing.
